How many times have you heard the old adage "The more things change, the more they stay the same"? Well, when it comes to the Mini-Skirt that saying is
very true.
In the shoot "Now and Then", May models some classic vintage and contemporary
mini dresses, and as far as the hemline and social stigma that
is attached to it is concerned, things haven't changed much over
the years; it's still short and controversial.
The Mini made
it's fashion debut in London, England (circa 1966) and spread
across the Atlantic quicker than you can say groovy, and as
tumultuous as the times were, it instantly became a fashion
statement of liberation and rebellion for young women. By the
late 1960's millions of weekly American TV viewers saw it
uniformely fashioned by actress Nichelle Nichols who played
communication officer Lt.Uhura on "Star Trek", reaching its peak
of popularity about 1974 when actress Maureen McCormick was a
teenage mini-dress fashion plate as Marcia Brady on "The Brady
Bunch".
Fashion trends come and go, but the iconic Mini
Skirt/Dress with its fresh, edgy, beautiful look has remained a
constant over the years, and I'm sure I speak for most guys
when I say, "Thank God For That!!!"
