Vertigo Photoshoot

San Francisco, CA

October 2008

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Alfred Hitchcock 1958 suspense classic "VERTIGO" Starring Kim Novak and James Stewart. I wanted to do a shoot in the city at the same locations where Hitchcock shot the movie. I mentioned the concept to actress/model Stefanie W, she offered to do the shoot but she didn't own a dress similar to the one Kim Novak wore in the movie, but what she did have was an outfit that was similar to the style that Tippi Hedren wore in the 1962 Hitchcock classic "The Birds". So we decided to fuse the two movies together 1962 outfit with 1958 movie, I'm sure Hitchcock wouldn't mind.

1st stop on our whirlwind tour of "The City"- The Historic Mission Dolores Graveyard. Graveyards are always fun to shoot so sacred, mysterious and Gothic. Interestingly enough the minute we got in the cemetery my camera stopped working but the photographer that was working the shoot her camera was fine so we continued, the minute I got out of the graveyard my camera started working again. Someone or something didn't want me in there and I respect that.

2nd location - The Palace of the Legion of Honor. We weren't allowed to go in with our cameras and shoot the scene they shot in the movie so we took some beautiful shots of Stefanie outside in front.

3rd location - El Camino Del Mar with the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop.

4th location - Fort Point for the big emotional scene where Madeleine played by Kim Novak jumps into the water and Scottie played by James Stewart saves her.

5th location - Scottie's apartment in the movie- 900 Lombard Sreet at the bottom of the" Most Crooked Street in the World".

6th location - view east of Coit Tower and Telegraph Hill.

7th and final spot of the day- A Nob Hill Landmark,The Brocklebank Apartments 1000 Mason Street which was Madeleine place of residence in the movie. It was a fun shoot to do on a beautiful day in the 'City by the Bay"
